Blog:The coop just wasn't working for me.

February 12, 2008 The coop just wasn't working for me.
Well I gave the coop a try, and I thought it was really going to work out for me, but it appears that they give coop members web sites low priority when it comes to serving pages.. For example, their server went down, and for 24 hours my sites were unavailable, when they finally explained what was wrong, it turned out to be a simple config issue.. So 24 hours down due to inexperience.. not good. Even a coop should be better than that.
I also had issues with their rules on .htaccess files and rewrite rules. Due to them not allowing some rewrite rules, I was never able to move adnd.com over there..Which turned out to be a good thing, because to have my main site down for 24 hours, really would have sucked.
I also had run into some real bad attitudes when trying to get help.. Most people were quite helpful, but there were a couple members who were just total assholes.. One I ran into in their chat room, this was during my first day or two on the system, and things were still real new to me. The guy was such a prick, that I almost quit that day, but decided to keep giving it a try..
I will keep my eye open for other coop type services, and I will give them a try and see how they work out, and as usually, I will post my opinions here :)
I think what I would really love to see is a coop that instead of just sharing a shell server, would actually give each member a virtual machine. This way you have control of your own server and daemons. This would be ideal.
Well back to the drawing board...
