With the release of the NVIDIA 560.x drivers, with all the fixes in it for Wayland display server, I was excited to give it a try. Firstly, when it works, it is amazing, everything looks so sharp/crisp and no screen tearing at all. But I have 1 issue, and I have not found a problem. I noticed this issue in 555.x drivers. I get whole screen flicker, on both displays.
This is my current screen layout, which works really well for my workflow. I keep the left screen static, and the middle screen is where my virtual desktops live. That way, as I move across the virtual desktops, my right screen never changes. I put things here that I want to always be able to see. Also by the way, this is why I like gnome, and the only reason I like gnome. KDE does not seem to do this, at least not without installing a bunch of weird plugins and such.
Anyway, back to the point of this blog. What I am seeing when I switch to Wayland is the entire desktop flickers, even when I am just idle and on both displays. I have no idea what is causing this, and I do not see this issue on my laptop, which is running Wayland. I don't know if this is a dual screen issue, a high refresh issue (165hz) or if I have some odd background process running that is causing this.
No matter what though, I won't be switching to Wayland until this issue is resolved, either by my sleuthing out the issue and fixing it my self (I will blog about it here when I do.) or a driver/Wayland update fixes it.
Oh Wayland, someday we will be friends.. Someday...
